It’s a common fact, that men are much more reluctant to buy tickets for a singles event than women, but why?

Since September last year FUSE have run a series of events such as wine tasting, beer tasting, networking and dinners, and it has become very apparent that women are much more willing to attend. In fact, to date almost every event has sold out of ladies tickets well in advance, whereas men require an entirely separate and better-focused marketing campaign. Even then, the advertising doesn’t always boost sales.

On questioning single men about their attitudes to dating events, the responses are surprising. Answers such as “It’s just not my thing” and “No way, that’s embarrassing” have certainly caused us to re-think the structure of our singles nights: a night out with fellow singletons should not be perceived as ‘desperate’.

We believe that events need to have less emphasis on dating: People should not attend singles events solely to meet ‘the one’, more over it should simply be to extend their social network and mix with other single people in the city.

We believe there needs to be a shift in the mindset of single people, that there shouldn’t be a negative stigma attached to being single, especially as there are many benefits to being so! FUSE have decided that the focus of our events should quite simply be fun nights out in a decent venue with a complimentary drink and live music. Hopefully this will make men feel better about paying for a singles event and succeed in giving the night a less ‘datey’ feel.

With so many ways of meeting potential partners — online, speed dating, work, match making — people should remember to enjoy being single and the best part of being single is meeting new people. From now on at our events, finding love will be a bonus rather than a mission!
